Accommodation
No.21 is my former home and is a recently renovated 2 bedroom town house and dépendance (second building). The house principale has on the first floor 2 double bedrooms, one with balcony and accompanying hammock, and a shared bathroom with separate WC. The ground floor is an open plan kitchen/diner/salon. The practice suite is in the newly finished dépendance at the back of the courtyard, along with the third ensuite bedroom and the sauna area.
The house is in the popular medieval market town of Mirepoix, situated in the Ariege department of the French Pyrenees. Its medieval place (town-square) offers restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, even festivals at certain weeks of the year, as well as a thriving Monday Market. Also, although Mirepoix has the second largest single nave cathedral in Europe, it’s actually more a large village with only 3000 full time inhabitants, and with stunning countryside, mountain views and a pretty riverside path just a short meander away, it’s perfect for rejuvenating oxygenating sessions of walking, gentle jogging, high-octane sprinting, even light sauntering, and it is also home to the riverbanks from which an enlivening river dip may be initiated. Mirepoix is a 30 minute drive from Carcassonne airport which is serviced by Ryanair, and an hour south of Toulouse which has a much larger international airport.
Transfers from and to the airport are not included but we can help with their organisation. A taxi costs in excess of €100 for an hour’s drive. Ideally this cost could be shared with other participants arriving at the same airport at the same time. Public transport to Mirepoix is possible for those with extra time to kill – a train from Toulouse to Pamiers followed by a bus to Mirepoix for example – but the frequency/reliability of the buses and trains coupled with the extra time it takes even on a smooth run means it’s not particularly recommended, certainly for anyone looking for precision travel itineries or wishing to maximise their chances of arriving in good time on the same day they left.
